At the age of 57, Evangelista bravely revealed her experience of isolation, revealing that she rarely ventured out of her home for a period of five years. This period of isolation was the result of an unforeseen and rare side effect she encountered after undergoing a procedure called cryolipolysis, which involves the elimination of fat cells.

Eventually, a medical professional diagnosed her with a rare side effect called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, shedding light on the underlying cause of her transformation.
The side effect can occur when the treated area becomes firmer and forms an enlarged mass under the skin rather than breaking down.
“If I had known side effects may include losing your livelihood and you’ll end up so depressed that you hate yourself. I wouldn’t have taken that risk”, an emotional Evangelista told British Vogue.
